Tatnell hopes high for shootout

BUNBURY will once again host some of the world's best sprintcar drivers this weekend for QUIT Bunbury Speedway's most anticipated race meet, the 2015 QUIT Krikke Boys Shootout.

With more than 30 drivers having entered the race's 18th event, the two-night extravaganza has attracted some of the biggest names in sprintcar racing and the action on the track is set to be intense.

Superstars such as defending champion Kerry Madsen, 2015 World Series Sprincars champion Brooke Tatnell and Robbie Farr will hit the track on Saturday and Sunday night, to compete in two heats and the 35-lap Shootout, which will determine this year's winner and who will take home $20,000.

QUIT Bunbury Speedway general manager Andrew Roberts said this year's field had the potential to put on one of the best events yet.

"We are really happy with the level of quality in the field," he said.

"There is anyone of 10 drivers who can win this."

For Shane Krikke and his Krikke Motorsport team this race means a lot and to take the title would be a highlight of the year.

Krikke Motorsport has twice won the shootout, but has never tasted success at the event with Brooke Tatnell behind the wheel.

"The QUIT Krikke Boys Shootout is a major race for the team," Krikke said.

"Our guys are leaving no stone unturned in our preparation, that's for sure."

Krikke admitted luck had not gone his team's way with Tatnell behind the wheel, but after winning the World Series Sprintcars championship at the weekend he was in the right form.

"We as a team have ticked off two of the races on the list this year with winning the George Tatnell Memorial race and the World Series Sprintcars on the weekend," he said.

"Brooke (Tatnell) has been with us for a long time and is considered part of the family - it is an important race to him."

The race also doubles as the grand final for this year's Battery All Types Southern Thunder Series, with Jason Kendrick sitting precariously on top, with a number of rivals pushing to take his place.
