Mums take a break

Mums take a break

Overworked mums will finally get a chance to put their feet up at Abbey Beach Resort this weekend.

Not-for-profit group Kalparrin is holding a Busselton Regional Mothers Weekend for parents of special needs children, focusing on reflection, rejuvenation, recreation and information.

Kalparrin programs and events co-ordinator Cecilia Donovan said the organisation had been holding mothers’ respite weekends for more than 30 years but this was the first to be held in regional WA.

“All too often, we hear from our mothers that this weekend is the only break that they get over the course of the year, from the role of caring for their children and their partner, ” she said.

Geographe resident Cherie Kane is one of 35 women who will attend the event.

Mrs Kane said she was kept extremely busy with her 11-year-old son Ethan, who has autism, and her four-year-old daughter Maddison, who has the bowel condition Hirschsprung’s disease.

“I homeschool my son so there’s never a break, ” she said.

“I’m really looking forward to it, just to have a break with other mums who understand things.”
