Masterplan for Yallingup
Alternative layouts for parking and a new viewing platform are among the recommendations in the draft Yallingup foreshore management plan, released for public consultation until next month.
An initiative of the Yallingup Land Care District Committee, the plan was developed to guide the management of the coastline between Slippery rocks and Rabbits Hill, and addresses both recreational and conservation issues.
The master plan included consultation with several Yallingup user groups, other conservation groups and indigenous representatives.
Committee chair Dennis Cuthbert said the master plan was developed to help balance the high recreational usage in the area with the conservation aspects.
“The Yallingup foreshore is one of the only foreshores (in the City of Busselton) without a master plan,” he said.
“We were concerned about the high tourism numbers and want to maintain the special character of Yallingup with an emphasis on the environment and water quality from Yallingup Brook.”
Mr Cuthbert said a review of parking was needed, including investigation of layouts for existing car parks and alternative parking spots.
Other recommendations from the master plan included improving beach access and stormwater drainage, and reviewing aging foreshore area signage to provide opportunities for new interpretive signage.
