Dancers take stage by storm

Two Port Kennedy dancers are taking stages by storm.

Megan Tonkin and Mollie Munro, both 14, are performers with the Premier Performance Academy and have been making waves with their dancing routines.

Premier Performance Academy principal Rhiannon Longstaff said the dancers and others from the school, had achieved remarkable results in the recent Rockingham Festival of the Arts.

‘‘Our whole school performed in the festival and we had children from three years right up to my adult staff performers,’’ she said. ‘‘Everything we entered we came out with a medal and Molly ended up with the junior dancer of the festival.’’

Megan was recently third in the Australian Teachers of Dance Australasian Scholarships competition.

She will travel to Melbourne in July to compete in the next round.

‘‘We’ll go over to Melbourne and she does a class with the adjudicator,’’ she said.

‘‘The following day she has to do two routines — a jazz routine and a lyrical routine, and compete to win the scholarship on offer.

‘‘It’s a really good way to highlight the work that’s going on.’’
