Kookaburras fly in to pass on pointers

Olivia Dredge, 11, with National Junior Squad hockey player Ross Hall.

Junior hockey players were treated to an afternoon of high-class training after a visit from Kookaburras Ross Hall and Tarrant Haami-Jones on May 7.

The national team players were in town with their National Indigenous Program, sponsored by Fortescue Metals Group.

The program has expanded this year and now includes Baynton West, Tambrey and Pegs Creek primary schools and concludes with joint coaching of the Nickol Bay Hockey Association juniors.

The boys made a great impression on the juniors, running drills and playing a series of short skills games, followed by a showcase of their talents.

Naturally, the children rallied for autographs and went home with hockey equipment to hone their own skills for the Kookaburras' next visit to Karratha.

Nickol Bay Hockey Association juniors play on Thursdays from 3.30pm-4.30pm on the Bulgarra tennis courts.

Players of any skill level are encouraged to join.

Registrations are still welcome.
