Apex donates to community

Apex donated $7,500 between the Wickham Junior Soccer Club and Millars Well School canteen.

Not-for-profit volunteer group Apex Karratha has awarded $6500 to two local organisations in the City of Karratha from its 2014 fundraising events.

Committee president Greg Harris said after a lengthy selection process the committee decided to award the Wickham Junior Soccer Association and Millars Well Parents and Citizens Committee with donations.

"Apex has traditionally raised funds from events like the Garden Party and community sausage sizzles, and that money goes directly to helping the community we live in," he said.

"We were made aware the Wickham Junior Soccer Association needed a helping hand with development costs and that Millars Well P and C needed funds to buy two new ovens for the school canteen.

"Both organisations are passionate about furthering the wellbeing of our local youth, we think the money donated will go to really good use."

Wickham Junior Soccer Association president Matt Emery said the $5000 donation would go a long way towards developing the club after starting up for the first time in eight years.

"The $5000 will go a long way towards the growth and retention of membership, raising the quality of the players and volunteers through coaching clinics and giving our youth transferable skills to take with them through life thought their involvement in the club," he said.

Millars Well P&C president Karen Hancock said the generous $1500 donation towards two new ovens for the school canteen would enable the school to add a variety of nutritious, home-made items to the menu.

"We are hoping to bring in a new chef to manage the canteen and are fully embracing green foods, healthy foods," she said.
