Melva motivated by a new beginning
Returning to Broome has been an emotional homecoming for businesswoman Melva Stone.
After an 18-month hiatus, the resident is keen to make a fresh start with the reopening of her chic retail store.
Trendy Trash n' Treasure opened in June 2013 as a pop-up shop providing high-quality second-hand antique collectables and unusual items for sale at low prices.
As well as offering a unique retail experience for locals and visitors, it also raised funds for the Royal Flying Doctor Service.
However, just two months into the venture, Ms Stone was forced to leave town after being diagnosed with cancer and moved to Perth for treatment.
While facing her own battle, Ms Stone experienced another tragedy when she lost her mother Marjorie Noyce to cancer in early February.
Now, as she looks towards a brighter future, the businesswoman is thrilled to return to Broome and begin the next chapter.
"I am delighted to be back in Broome," she said.
"The reopening is truly the start of a whole new journey for me after my illness and the death of my dear mum … I see it as another opportunity at life."
As the ambassador of RFDS WA, Ms Stone said a big part of the store's focus would be to contribute to fundraising efforts for the organisation's new Broome base.
Trendy Trash n' Treasure will open this Friday and operate in memory of her late mother.
