Joel Munro with his modified Skyline and Jeep.
  • Name * Joel Munro.

  • Vehicles * R32 Nissan Skyline and Jeep Cherokee.

I'm obsessed with Skylines. I've been into them for five years and have five of them now. I have had this Skyline for one-and-a-half years now and the Jeep for about six months. The good thing about the Jeep is it is short wheelbase so it can get over anything.

  • What do you like most about cars? *

I just love cars and love modifying things. You can buy a $5000 car and spend $6000 doing it up and that's only $11,000 down the drain. Alternatively you could go get a loan and get a $50,000 car which I haven't done, so costs are pretty low and it gets your enthusiasm going.

I'm not close-minded - I don't stick to one car and think that's the best. I know what's good about a Skyline, but I also know what's bad about a Skyline, and the same goes with four-wheel-drives and V8s - they all have their pros and cons.

  • What is your best memory in these cars? *

I went to the Father's Day car show last year and the Skyline wasn't registered so I put it on the car trailer and towed it with the 4WD, so I entered both in the show side-by-side.

It was a good entry because there weren't many Japanese cars there.

  • Do you have any words for budding car enthusiasts? *

Car enthusiasm is about cars, it's not about whether you think a commodore is better than a 2.0L because it has a V8 or because it has torque. Everything has its pros and cons.

You are allowed to not like a car but you should be able to see and appreciate what its attributes are.
