Lightning sparks mine site fire
Lightning sparked a fire at a mining site in the State’s north last night.
The fire occurred at Fortescue Metals Group’s Christmas Creek mine in the Pilbara.

A Fortescue spokesperson said about 9.30pm that the response team on the ground reported that the situation was under control and there was no threat to people, property or operations.
"Fortescue has established plans in place and takes appropriate precautions in dealing with Pilbara bushfires, which are common at this time of year," the spokesperson said.
A Department of Fire and Emergency Services spokesman said volunteer firefighters from Newman and Marble Bar were sent to the site.
