Donated beds help provide comfort for families in need
Families in need are sleeping better this week after a generous donation of beds to a local youth program.
The Youth Involvement Council’s Youth Accommodation Program received more than 30 beds and a number of fridges from Airport Precinct Infrastructure Construction Services.
YAP co-ordinator Jean King said word got around the organisation’s clients and contacts very quickly, and in next to no time the beds were claimed and ready to be sent.
“There’s obviously a desperate need out there from families who need items like this, because within days all of the beds had been claimed,” she said.
“They’re going to families who were homeless and are moving into housing for the first time, to families with children who can’t afford beds, and to anyone in the community who needs help.
“We’ve had so many people calling up asking for help and we’re about to run out of things to give them…it’s been so difficult because they went so quickly.”
YAP provides emergency accommodation services to 15 to 25-yearolds, as well as case management and support for a wide-range of clients and their families in the area.
Ms King said the service had a large number of contacts in need in the community, and was always looking for donations to share around.
