Collection of dolls to be sold for RFDS fundraiser
Hundreds of dolls will be up for sale this weekend as part of an Albany woman's bid to fulfil her mother's dying wish.
Kojonup woman and avid doll collector Jean Fleay died in January and left her six children her cherished collection of about 500 dolls.
From tiny figurines you could fit inside a matchbox to those that stand more than 60cm tall, Mrs Fleay stockpiled them all.
Her eldest daughter Dianne Waldron said she spent about 15 years buying and handcrafting porcelain dolls.
"It got to be a bit of an obsession," she said.
"Even when she stopped making them, she would not part with them."
Before she died, Mrs Fleay requested her dolls be used to raise funds for the Royal Flying Doctor Service, which had helped her husband Harry in the past.
Mrs Waldron has spent the past few months carting carloads of dolls from Kojonup to Albany ahead of a garage sale on Sunday.
"Every cent will go to the RFDS at mum's request," she said.
"I think she would be happy to know her collection was being used to support a service we all sometimes take for granted."
The sale will be held from 9am-1pm at The Outlook in Bayonet Head.
