Advanced truck makes a pit stop in Kalgoorlie

One of the first TH663 trucks in Australia completed a pit stop at Sandvik’s Kalgoorlie Customer Service Centre this week.

Described as “among the safest hard-rock hauling trucks ever made”, the truck was travelling to Perth on its way back from the AusIMM Underground Operators Conference in Adelaide.

The TH663 was launched by Swedish mining equipment supplier Sandvik at the 2012 MinExpo in Las Vegas and was extensively trialled at a WA gold mine last year.

During the trials, a total of 56,000 tonnes of ore was hauled by the on-site fleet last July.

The TH663 alone moved 24,000 tonnes, logging 480 hours for 54t an hour at close to its 63t payload.

Sandvik said it has sold trucks to operations in the Northern Territory and hopes to make inroads in WA.
