Driver jailed
A Kambalda man has been sent to jail for 12 months after being convicted of driving with a suspended licence for the ninth time.
Clifton Peter Murray, 37, appeared in the Kalgoorlie Magistrate’s Court yesterday charged with reckless driving and driving with a suspended licence.
He was also charged with possession of a smoking utensil for amphetamines, and possession of unlicensed ammunition. The court heard Murray was driving on the Coolgardie-Esperance highway near Dundas in September.
Police clocked Murray driving at a speed of 155km/h and arrested him. His vehicle was also seized.
Inquiries revealed Murray was driving with a suspended licence at the time of the incident.
About a month later a search warrant was executed at his home in Kambalda, and police found ammunition and the smoking implement.
Defence lawyer Will Reid said Murray had no intention of travelling at such speeds and merely suffered a momentary lapse of concentration.
