Diving into hot summer days

Goldfielders will get their first taste of summer this week, with temperatures predicted to hit 40C before the end of the weekend.

Goldfields Oasis Recreation Centre manager Coby Halpin said preparations were under way to ensure it was an “amazing summer” at the community facility.

He said record numbers took to the pool during the October school holidays and it was expected similar numbers would dive in when school finished next month.

“I think in one day we had over 1000 people which for October is amazing,” Mr Halpin said. “Obviously all things being equal and the weather being nice, I would expect it to be a really, really awesome summer.”

A new outdoor park area will be launched at the centre later this year. Mr Halpin said the park, to include a shaded lawn and barbecue area, was one of several new family-friendly programs being rolled out at the centre.

“We have purchased a lot of small inflatables that are just fun,” he said. "There is a log ride, there are jousting sticks and other things that can just be up in the pool.”
