Festival brings families together

The inaugural Goldfields Indigenous Lifestyle Development festival will kick off tomorrow.

The festival, held in lieu of NAIDOC week, will see a range of activities take place in Kalgoorlie-Boulder this week, including a family fun day, and battle of the bands.

Event organiser and CHEAFS Aboriginal Corporation chief executive Jason Dimer said the festival aimed to change negative perceptions of Aboriginal culture in the community.

“There is a lot of bad press when it comes to Aboriginal people,” Mr Dimer said.

“We want to change that.”

The festival will begin with a family fun day in Kingsbury Park from 9.30am.
