Get in quick for Texas hold'em

When it comes to becoming the Goldfields champion in Texas hold’em poker, it is going to take more than just knowing when to hold them and when to fold them.

The first step is buying a ticket for the tournament being held at the Graduates Hall, midway through Race Round, on Wednesday, September 19. Tickets to the fifth installment of the no-limit Texas hold’em poker tournament costs $120 with first place winning a trophy, a cash prize of up to $10,000 and the right to be dubbed the “Goldfields Champion”.

Kalgoorlie MLA John Bowler, who gleefully dressed as a “playa” for the Kalgoorlie Miner’s photo shoot, said he expected the event being close to “sold out”.

“This is generally recognised as the main (card) event, ” he said.

Cash poker games will also be operating, for those who are knocked out from the tournament early, and the venue will be serviced with a licensed bar.

Doors open at 5pm, but the strict time for registration will be 5.30pm, with the tournament starting at 6pm sharp. Tickets can be purchased at the Goldfields Arts Centre. For more information contact Mr Bowler’s office on 9021 6766.
