Students celebrate book week

St Joseph's Primary School held a dress-up day yesterday to celebrate book week.

Students from all years took part in a parade yesterday morning showing off their costumes to family and friends.

Assistant principal Jodie Shurmer said children were encouraged to dress up as their favourite literary character or sportsperson to celebrate this year’s book week theme “Champions Read”.

“Parents and children really put in a lot of effort,” Ms Shurmer said.

She said the theme was chosen by book week organiser the Children’s Book Council of Australia to coincide with the Olympics.

Ms Shurmer said the event was a great way to get children interested in books.

“It’s really important to make the school community aware of the importance of reading,” she said.
