A Geraldton police officer has broken his hand after fending off a man who allegedly tried to grab his taser while in custody yesterday.

Another officer was also allegedly kicked in the leg during the incident.

He then allegedly jumped on the bonnet of the vehicle and cracked the windscreen when the woman tried to drive away.

The man appeared before two Justice of Peace at the Geraldton Magistrate's Court today to face a charge of common assault, two counts of assaulting public officers and two counts of damage.
