Chance at the big time

A modelling contract and hitting the catwalk is something many Australian teenage girls dream about.

But Ebony White is one step closer to it being a reality.

The Nagle Catholic College boarding student is one of a handful of girls chosen as a finalist in the Girlfriend Rimmel model search.

The 17-year-old’s family lives in the small country town of Leeman, north of Perth.

She travels home on weekends and during the holidays.

Ebony has no previous modelling experience, but has always looked up to one of Australia’s most successful models, Miranda Kerr.

Kerr was also discovered through a teen magazine modelling competition.

At the tender age of 14 she scored modelling contracts with well-known Australian surf brands.

The making of her career came when she signed a huge contract with Maybelline New York and Victoria Secret catalogues.

“She is amazing and I guess I’m in a similar situation to her,” Ebony said.

Girlfriend magazine’s modelling competition has uncovered careers of many of Australia’s most successful models including Alyssa Sutherland, Catherine McNeil and Samantha Harris.

Ebony thinks it will be amazing to have a chance at the big time, but she is more than thrilled just to be a selected finalist in the competition.

“I’m more excited than nervous. I just want to get down to Perth,” she said.

“Mum and I have been planning the trip since we found out and we are both so excited.”

Ebony will meet Girlfriend Rimmel model search judges in Perth at Westfield Carousel on Saturday, July 14.

Perth will be the sixth stop in a national tour of the country to offer one lucky teen the opportunity at international stardom.

The competition is designed to help young teenage girls with their self-esteem.

The judges will ask her a series of questions about her personality, ambitions, hobbies and favourite brands.

Ebony will then have a series of photos taken for her portfolio.

The overall winner will receive a two year contract with Chic Management and an opportunity to meet Next Model management in New York.

She will get an all-expenses-paid trip to Sydney for a finalists’ fashion shoot and appear in Girlfriend magazine.

The winner will also be treated to one year supply of Rimmel London make-up products.

A national finalist and six state finalists will also win a series of prizes.
