Perth-raised fashion designer Kym Ellery will battle it out against two prominent Australian designers at this year's InStyle and Audi Women of Style Awards.

Ellery has been nominated in the fashion category along with Leona Edmiston and managing director of Country Road Sophie Holt.

In the seven years since she began her eponymous label, Ellery has built a cult following thanks to her sculptural tailoring and directional aesthetic.

"I'm passionate about making clothes for women," Ellery says, "a costume for their modern lives."

A finalist in the 2010 Woolmark designer of the year award, last year Ellery - whose clothes are stocked around the world - became the third Australian designer to be invited to show during Paris Fashion Week.

Closer to home, she's supported charities including Beyondblue and the National Breast Cancer Foundation.

The InStyle and Audi Women of Style Awards honour Australia's most inspirational and innovative women across eight fields, including beauty, lifestyle, environment and the arts.

Among the judging panel for this year's awards are Deborra-Lee Furness, Jana Wendt, Layne Beachley, Louise Olsen, Collette Dinnigan and Nicole Kidman, who is expected to attend the exclusive event in Sydney in May as she will be back in Australia filming Strangerland with Hugo Weaving and Guy Pearce.
