Man charged after Mirrabooka attack

Police have charged a man after an attack on an elderly woman in Mirrabooka that left her with a broken hip.

The 74-year-old woman required surgery for a fractured hip after a man grabbed her handbag and knocked her forcefully to the ground in the Mirrabooka Shopping Centre car park at about 7.30pm on Thursday.

The man fled in a white Hyundai hatchback.

A 26-year-old Nollamara man has been charged with two counts of stealing from a person, one at Mirrabooka and one at Warwick Shopping Centre, and two counts of stealing a motor vehicle, on Tuesday and one yesterday.

He was apprehended at a Balcatta home.

A 17-year-old Nollamara man was also charged yesterday with stealing a motor vehicle after he was allegedly involved in the theft of the white Hyundai hatchback used in the Mirrabooka robbery.

He appeared in the Perth Children’s Court yesterday and was remanded to appear again on January 11.

A police spokesman said inquiries are continuing and further charges may follow.
