Elderly woman's attempt to hassle busker thwarted by onlookers

A crowd of onlookers has come to the rescue of a busker in Liverpool, UK, during an elderly woman's bid to silence his performance.

In footage captured by a witness, the woman can be seen approaching the man and complaining about the “excessive volume”.

The man was performing his own rendition of ‘No Woman No Cry’, complete with electric guitar.

After a brief and vigorous discussion with the woman, the busker continues to sing on, in spite of her remonstrations.

As the woman’s ire grows, the man calmly tries to move her away from the leads and pedals of his equipment. A cheer rises from the surrounding crowd.

Yet the woman refuses to budge, standing her ground in front of the man while he belts out lines from the Bob Marley classic.

It’s at this moment that the crowd decides to offer the man their support.

It starts with a small boy, who runs up to the busker and throws a coin into his hat.

Within seconds, more children follow his lead and begin throwing coins at the man’s feet.

“Leave him alone!” one woman shouts to the elderly lady.

The man who filmed the incident said the woman woman was causing the busker “all sorts of problems by disrupting his act”.

'The crowd were enjoying his performance until she came along,” he said. “'There was nearly a riot as the crowd joined forces and backed the busker with cheering and money.”

Those on social media have since praised the crowd for their kindheartedness. “The best city to come to,” Pål Guttormsen said of Liverpool itself. “Absolutely top class people! It’s different from all the UK.”

Others, however, were less quick to judge the elderly woman for her complaints.

“That many people [going[ at her at the same time seems very cruel to me,” Stephanie Louise said on Facebook, the Liverpool Echo reported.
