The operators of Margaret River's tattoo shop say the return to their "new" location has helped them thrive, after departing from premises on the main street.

Electric Tattoo owner Skaya Martino said the Fearn Avenue venue was a "fresh start" for the shop, which previously traded as Artful Ink.

"The small atmosphere kind of got lost at the other one," she said.

Mrs Martino said the shop had four tattooists and two apprentices and looked to make its reputation through social media.

"Being Margaret River, it's mostly word-of-mouth," she said.

The group filmed a punk rock music video using the shop as a backdrop and she said tattoo artist Karl Heussenstamm was "booked out most days".

"Artists usually know their clients," Mrs Martino said.

She said the tattoo shop had occasional "drop-ins" as well as its regular clients.

"They're usually the smaller ones," she said.

Mrs Martino said waves and palm trees were popular small designs, while full-sleeve tattoos took longer.
