Rare look at Elizabeth Quay construction
A bird's eye view of Elizabeth Quay has captured the huge scale of work at the riverside site as it takes shape.
It shows the Bell Tower at the top of the picture, with the start of the inlet on the left and the removable silt curtains protecting the river on the right.
The Metropolitan Redevelopment Authority yesterday tweeted the aerial photograph of the waterfront development under construction using the hashtag TheBigDig.
The inlet, food and drink outlets and the public realm - including the BHP Billiton Water Park, The Island and pedestrian bridge - are due to be completed this year.
Excavators are removing 4000 tonnes of soil and clay a day to create the inlet, which is slowly filling with water, and workers are also laying more than one million granite pavers by hand throughout the public areas.
