Meyers sorry for alcohol relapse

Irish actor Jonathan Rhys Meyers has publicly apologised for relapsing in his battle with alcohol addiction, branding his recent booze binge “a blip in my recovery”.

The Tudors star has checked into rehab a number of times over the years but was photographed earlier this month swigging from a bottle of vodka on a London street in the middle of the day.

Meyers, 37, has now sent his fans a message via a post on his fiancee Mara Lane’s Instagram , saying he was “embarrassed“ about his relapse and had already stopped drinking.

“Mara and I are thankful for your support and kindness during this time. I apologises (sic) for having a minor relapse and hope that people don’t think too badly of me,” he wrote. “I stopped drinking immediately ... and I apologise to fans and colleagues. I am on the mend and thank well- wishers and sorry for my dishevelled appearance as I was on my way home from a friend’s and had not changed. I feel I made a mistake and feel quite embarrassed but this was just a blip in my recovery, otherwise I’m living a healthy life. Love and blessings. Rebel Angel.”

The actor also told fans his relapse had nothing to do with his absence from the Cannes Film Festival this month, insisting he was never scheduled to appear at the event.
