Nate's Mates step up

Everyone had their reason.

In fact, there were a record 31,700 reasons during yesterday's sixth annual HBF Run for a Reason, presented by The West Australian.

For the family and friends of Nate Anderson, the reason was pretty simple - raise enough money to buy Nate a prosthetic leg so he can run next year's event.

Nate, 5, who had his leg amputated after suffering acute lymphoblastic leukaemia, needed $15,000.

His group, Nate's Mates, raised $20,000, the second-highest team total.

Nate, who made sure he walked over the finish line despite being confined to a wheelchair for the run, said it was the best part.

Nate's story epitomises what the Run for a Reason is all about, with hundreds of similar heart-warming tales of community spirit.
