A man has been charged after he tried to break in to a Perth police station while officers were inside.

Police allege that at 6.45pm yesterday, a 38-year-old Bentley man jumped the side fence to Kensington Police Station and used a brick paver to smash a window.

He then crawled through the hole and was caught by officers inside.

The man was injured when climbing into the station and was taken to Royal Perth Hospital.

He was charged with criminal damage, trespass and breach of bail and will appear before the Perth Magistrate's Court today.
