A male driver made an incredible escape from a head-on crash with a truck in Pinjarra this morning.

The man’s car collided with a truck carrying concrete on the South Western Highway, near Fairbridge Road, about 5.20am.

The impact crushed his car to a point where survival appeared impossible.

Police closed the highway in both directions as firefighters used the Jaws of Life to free the trapped driver from “significant encasement” in the wreckage.

He was then airlifted to Perth by the RAC rescue helicopter in remarkably good health.

He remains at Royal Perth Hospital in a stable condition.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
