Bank manager on $500k theft charge

A former bank manager has appeared in court accused of stealing close to $500,000 in customer funds and fraudulent loans.

The 35-year-old Palmyra man appeared in Fremantle Magistrate's Court today to face 20 counts of stealing and 3 counts of fraud.

It is alleged he stole $400,000 from customers over a two year period between 2011 and 2013.

During that period he was a bank manager at branches in Bunbury and Fremantle.

Police further allege he also applied for three loans worth $95,000 while purporting to be a real customer.

It is alleged he redirected mail related to the loan to another address to ensure the customer was not aware of his alleged dealings.

Major fraud detectives launched an investigation when they became aware of his alleged activities and charged him earlier this month.

He was not required to plead and had the matter adjourned until August 19.
