Glory tyro shines for Young Socceroos

Perth Glory prodigy Daniel De Silva scored the winner as the Young Socceroos came from behind to beat Chile 5-4 at the NTC Invitational Tournament in California this morning (WA time).

After defeating Bermuda 3-1 in the opening game of the tournament, Paul Okon’s men had to come from 4-2 down to beat Chile and keep their perfect record alive.

Marc Marino and Devante Clut scored the first two goals for Australia before Chile scored the next four.

Substitute Awer Mabil rose from the bench to score a brace for the Young Socceroos and level the scores.

Italy-bound De Silva scored the winner to cap a fine comeback.

The 17-year-old attacking midfielder will join AS Roma next year after seeing out the 2014-15 season with Glory.

The transfer will net Glory an A-League record transfer fee of about $2 million.

The Young Socceroos will meet hosts USA in their final match of the tournament on Saturday (10am WA time).

The match will be streamed live on US Soccer’s website.

Glory’s Young Socceroos trio of De Silva, defender Riley Woodcock and goalkeeper Jordan Thurtell will return to the club next week.

Woodcock was in the starting line-up against Chile.
