US actor Tracy Morgan has been released from a rehabilitation centre after suffering serious injuries in a car accident last month.

The former 30 Rock star's limousine was rear-ended by a Walmart truck as he was heading home from a stand-up performance, killing his friend and fellow comic James McNair and injuring three other passengers.

Morgan, 45, suffered broken ribs, a broken nose and a broken leg but a representative for the comedian has released a statement saying he is on the mend.

Morgan is now suing Walmart over the accident, filing a lawsuit against the US retail giant last week.

The suit alleges the driver had been behind the wheel for more than 13 hours at the time of the accident and was so fatigued that he fell asleep at the wheel.

Walmart called the accident "a terrible tragedy". "We are deeply sorry that one of our trucks was involved," the company said in a statement.
