Charge after crash with cow killed girl

A Broome man who crashed into a cow causing the death of a 13-year-old girl has been charged with dangerous driving causing death.

Major crash investigators charged the 43-year-old man in relation to the fatal crash in Derby on December 30 last year.

A police spokesman said a Suzuki Swift was being driven north on the Derby Highway about 7.50pm on that evening.

"Approximately 25km south of Derby the Suzuki collided with a cow," police said.

"The crash caused significant damage to the vehicle and the four occupants suffered serious injuries.

"Tragically, a 13 year old girl who was a passenger in the vehicle later died at Derby Hospital."

A 43-year-old man from Broome, who was 42 years old at the time of the crash, has been charged with Dangerous Driving Occasioning Death and is due to appear in the Broome Magistrates Court on Friday.
