Police said the cabbie picked up the passenger at the taxi rank on Hannan and Wilson Streets yesterday around 3.15pm yesterday, with the man asking to be taken to Kalgoorlie Railway Station.

When they arrived, the passenger threatened the driver with a sharp object and demanded money.

He fled with the money and was last seen running over the pedestrian footbridge and onto Wittenoom Street.

The man is described as around 25 years old and fair skinned and around 170cms in height, with a medium build and short dark hair.

He was wearing a white top and dark-coloured pants.
