A man threatened people with a knife in Fremantle yesterday, forcing staff at a store to lock in customers while police made a dramatic arrest.

Police said a man and a woman were arguing with another man outside the ANZ bank on Queen Street about 3.50pm.

A 38-year-old man and 25-year-old woman were arrested on the footpath on nearby Adelaide Street about 10 minutes later. Police said they would face charges.

Staff at Kathmandu locked doors as the drama unfolded in front of their store.

A staff member said about eight officers were yelling at the man and woman.

"We saw some police officers run in one direction and the next minute they came back in the other direction with Tasers out and started yelling, telling them to get on the ground," the staff member said.

"I had to lock the front door because we had customers in the store at the time, just to make sure nobody came in."
