Car bursts into flames during burnout

A 26-year-old Spearwood man allegedly did burnouts until his car burst into flames overnight.

Police will allege they received several calls about 12.40am about a car hooning in Spearwood, including information the car had caught fire.

A police spokesman said officers found the car on fire near the corner of Edeline and Doolette street.

The driver allegedly became aggressive towards police before he was arrested and taken to Perth Watch House for processing.

"In addition to burnout marks on the road, gouge marks were identified where the rubber tyres had shredded off the metal rims," the spokesman said. "It is believed sparks from the rims touching the road ignited the fire."

"Due to the damage caused to the vehicle it was not seized, and a surrender notice will be issued to the driver."

The 26-year-old has been charged with reckless driving and refusing a breath test.

He is due to appear in Fremantle Magistrate's Court on Tuesday, April 1.
