Shirley Temples dies aged 85

Hollywood star Shirley Temple has died at the age of 85, the BBC has reported.

The British broadcaster reported that her family has issued a statement saying that the actress died at her home in Woodside, California, from natural causes on Monday.

“She was surrounded by her family and caregivers,” the family said.

“We salute her for a life of remarkable achievements as an actor, as a diplomat, and ... our beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.”

Temple got her start in movies when she was just three years old.

She became a super star in the 1930s after starring in films including Bright Eyes, Stand Up and Cheer and Curly Top.

The went on to become a humanitarian and US diplomat for the UN.
