Widow of former premier dies

Winifred Joan Tonkin, widow of former WA premier John Tonkin, died on Tuesday aged 93.

Born in 1920, Mrs Tonkin was a tireless community contributor, working with the Australian Red Cross, Girl Guides WA, Scouts Australia and the WA Royal Flying Doctor Service.

In October last year, Mrs Tonkin was awarded a certificate recognising her as the inaugural president of honour of the Royal Commonwealth Society.

A committal service will be held on February 5.
