Bushfire closes section of Bibbulmun

A section of the Bibbulmun Track is closed after a fire started at the summit of Mt Cuthbert.

A bushfire advice has been issued for people in the vicinity of Mt Cuthbert, 15km east of Jarrahdale along Albany Highway, in the Shire of Wandering. It is burning towards Albany Highway.

Suspicious blaze in Denmark

The fire was reported at 11.30am today and 28 firefighters from the Serpentine-Jarrahdale Bushfire Brigade and the Department of Parks and Wildlife are making their way on foot.

Water bombers are assisting ground crews.

The cause of the blaze is not known.

The Bibbulmun Track is closed from Brookton Hwy to the north and Millars Log Road to the south.

The Department of Parks and Wildlife advises that the bushfire is moving slowly in a westerly direction at 40m an hour.

"It is a small fire but it is in difficult to access terrain," the department said.

There is no immediate threat to homes or lives but there is smoke in the area.
