Secret Pistorius video replays shooting

Shuffling awkwardly without his prostheses and pointing an imaginary gun, Oscar Pistorius is shown in a secret video re-enacting in graphic detail the killing of his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp.

The footage, recorded on behalf of his legal team but never shown to the court, was aired as a world exclusive last night on Channel 7's Sunday Night.

Seven kept the existence of the footage secret until just hours before the show aired, sparking a frenzy in the US, Britain and particularly in South Africa, where the Olympic athlete's marathon murder trial is continuing.

Mr Pistorius' legal team tried to stop the video being aired, claiming that it had been given to Seven by a US-based forensic animator against their wishes.

In the video, which lasts almost an hour, Mr Pistorius describes how he believed a burglar had broken into his home and says he was unaware that Ms Steenkamp, whom he had been dating for three months, was in the toilet when he fired four shots through the door, killing her.

"Reeva, there is someone in the house, call the police, call the police, call the police babe . . . please, please God, please God," he yells in the re-enactment.

He then runs bare-legged down the hallway towards the imaginary intruder.

The video includes chilling audio of the 27-year-old Paralympian wailing and screaming when he describes the moment he says he realised he had accidentally killed his girlfriend.
