Student loses thumb in freak classroom accident
An 18-year-old student has been rushed to hospital after severing his thumb during a carpentry class.
CareFlight responded to an incident at Nirimba TAFE at Quakers Hill, in Sydney’s northwest, at 2:24pm (local time) on Thursday to issue critical care to the teenager.
Witnesses say he was using a drop saw when his left thumb became caught in the contraption.
The student’s thumb was then sliced cleanly off.
After pain relief, the patient was taken via road ambulance to Westmead Hospital in a stable condition.
