Student loses thumb in freak classroom accident

An 18-year-old student has been rushed to hospital after severing his thumb during a carpentry class.

CareFlight responded to an incident at Nirimba TAFE at Quakers Hill, in Sydney’s northwest, at 2:24pm (local time) on Thursday to issue critical care to the teenager.

Witnesses say he was using a drop saw when his left thumb became caught in the contraption.
