Boy's final words before death after being shot by grandad revealed in court

The tragic finals words of a young boy shot dead by his grandfather have been revealed in a British court.

Stanley Metcalf, 6, was accidentally shot in the stomach with an air rifle by his grandfather, Albert Grannon, during a family gathering at a house in Yorkshire, England, in July last year.

The boy was shot from just a few feet away and suffered a hole in his abdomen, as a pellet severed an artery.

“You shot me, Grandad,” the youngster told his 78-year-old relative, a court has been told.

Stanley was rushed to hospital in an ambulance but later died.

Mr Grannon kept the gun, often loaded, to shoot vermin and had accidentally pulled the trigger while it was pointed at the young child, prosecutors argued.

Stanley's distraught mother said the pensioner had never even apologised, the BBC reported.

Mr Grannon owned the rifle without the necessary permit, which was required because the gun’s powder meant it was categorised as "especially dangerous”.

The grandfather pleaded guilty to manslaughter and was sentenced to three years’ jail time on Tuesday.

Stanley’s parents described him as being “vibrant and full of energy”.

Reading a statement to the court his mother Jenny Dees spoke of the nightmare ordeal caused by their family member.

"Never once did he say sorry and now if he did, it would be meaningless and too little too late,” she said.

"It was through his [Grannon’s] recklessness, stupidity and lack of forethought that caused Stanley to be taken away.

"I hope he can live with himself and the pain he has caused".
