WARNING — GRAPHIC DETAILS: A 12-year-old schoolgirl has been arrested after she allegedly stabbed a classmate to death in the school toilets for mocking her after she got a low mark on an exam.
The victim has been named as Fatmanisa Yurekli, also 12. She was allegedly beaten with a hose before being stabbed to death with a knife by her classmate, who has only been named as E. D., in Toroslar, Turkey, at around 12pm on Wednesday.
E. D., whose name has been withheld due to a gag order by the local Office of the Chief Public Prosecutor, reportedly summoned her classmate to the toilet with a written note.
She then allegedly beat her with the hose before stabbing her in the throat and abdomen with the knife a total of five times after she brought the blade to school from home.
E. D. then reportedly fled the scene, with the school authorities discovering the victim after hearing her screams. They were reportedly shocked at the bloodbath they found and called an ambulance.
Fatmanisa was taken to hospital by ambulance but later died due to the injuries that she sustained.
E. D. was apprehended by officers and taken to a police station. She reportedly told them she did it because Fatmanisa had made fun of her after she got a bad mark on a test.
The police kept the knife as evidence.
In the case of a criminal act committed by a child aged between 12 and 15, investigators in Turkey can arrest them and take them into custody to assess whether the child is aware of the consequences of their action. If this is found to be the case, they will be punished accordingly. The investigation is ongoing.
