An 11-year-old girl has undergone facial surgery after being mauled by a friend’s pet dog.
Susie Willington was playing at a friend’s home at Greenwith yesterday afternoon when the Labrador attacked her without warning.
She told 7News she went to pat the dog when it snapped at her.
The girl’s mother, Sue Willington, told 7News: “Half her nose was missing so yeah, it was a big shock.”
“I don’t think any child should be left unsupervised with any dog because I don’t think any dog is 100 per cent trustworthy.”
Susie is expected to be able to leave hospital tomorrow, but she will need to return for more surgery in the coming months.
Her parents are considering seeking compensation from the dog’s owners to cover their medical costs.
The dog's owners have already had it destroyed.
