'Your rego has been cancelled': New scam warning targeting drivers

A new scam has emerged targeting drivers in New South Wales, prompting a warning from police.

The scam comes in the form of a letter notifying the recipient their vehicle’s registration has been cancelled, according to the Richmond Police District in Lismore.

It added the letter at “first glance” looked “convincing”.

“Take a closer look though; it does not have the car rego, offence details or the licence number,” police wrote on Facebook with a picture of the letter.

“This scam took place in Sydney but it is quite possible it could make its way to the Northern Rivers.”

Richmond police said anyone who receives a similar letter to contact the State Debt Recovery office on 1300 138 118 to confirm its authenticity.
