Prince Charles reunites with Aussie school mate in Brisbane crowd

A Queensland man who attended a prestigious Victorian school at the same time as Prince Charles, more than 50 years ago, has been pictured catching up with the future king in Brisbane.

Wendy Ryan posted an image online reportedly of her father Ian Bullock conversing with the Prince of Wales at Brisbane City Botanic Gardens on Wednesday.

"Old school pals catching up from #timbertop," Ms Ryan wrote on Instagram.

In 1966 a 17-year-old Prince Charles spent six months studying at Geelong Grammar School's Timbertop campus, in the Victorian Alps.

According to the Courier Mail Mr Bullock attended the school for three years, including the two terms the Prince was at the school, but the pair did not have much to do with one another during the time.

Ms Ryan told the publication that Prince Charles did not recognise her father but they reminisced about the school and said her father was "stoked" about their interaction.

“He probably didn’t remember him, but I’m sure he (Dad) thought it was nice of him to remember the time back at Timbertop," Ms Ryan said.

The royal couple received a warm welcome from crowds in Brisbane on Wednesday for their first official visit, with rainy conditions clearing in time for the public meet and greet.

On Thursday it's down to more official business, with Charles and Camilla to get an official tour of the Commonwealth Games athletes' village before hitting the beach.

But rather than going for a dip in the still-balmy autumn weather, they'll attend Kurrawa Surf Lifesaving Club for a plaque unveiling and a nippers display.

The Prince of Wales will meet with Welsh Commonwealth team members and fans.

Charles is also set to meet both sides of Australian politics on Thursday, with Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull and wife Lucy joining the royal couple for the tour of the athletes' village before an informal meeting, while Labor opposition leader Bill Shorten will meet with them on Thursday afternoon.

Charles and Camilla are also both scheduled to hand out medals for the swimming and cycling respectively.

It will be the final day the prince and duchess are together, with Camilla set to attend events in Brisbane on Friday before flying home, while Charles will fly to Bundaberg and then on the Vanuatu, Cairns and Darwin.
