Locals make unexpected discovery on Queensland beach

It's not exactly what you expect to see when you're taking a stroll along the beach.

On Wednesday, Bob Katter took to Facebook to share a picture with fellow politician Shane Knuth during a visit to the Mission Beach Surf Life Saving Club, north of Townsville.

But this wasn't your typical political photo op. The pair, alongside some life savers, had come across a bizarre find on the beach - a cow carcass lying in the sand.

It's believed the animal may have died in the recent North Queensland floods.

"It's another graphic illustration of the damage done by the flood waters," Mr Katter wrote on his Facebook page.

"We'll never know the full damage but I'd say it's around $20m worth when you tally up crops, stock losses, property damage, machinery."

A second cow carcass was found at Wongaling Beach on Wednesday, according to the Mission Beach Community Association.

Both have since been buried, according to News Corp.
