Kitchen torn apart in attempt to catch red-bellied black snake

A snake catcher has had to tear out part of a kitchen to reach a red-bellied black snake that sneaked into a Sunshine Coast home and slithered behind the cabinets.

Stuart McKenzie from The Snake Catcher 24/7 shared a video of the catch at Pacific Paradise on Facebook, after the sneaky serpent tried to find a place to hide.

Mr McKenzie told Yahoo7 the snake, which was about a metre long, might have been venturing around looking for a feed and spotted the open door to the home a couple of days ago.

"This little Red Belly decided he wanted to get out of the rain and hang out in a family's kitchen in Pacific Paradise," Mr McKenzie wrote on Facebook on Wednesday.

The snake catcher says in the footage that the resident had tried to block a gap in a board in the kitchen with a broom, but the snake still managed to squeeze into the small space.

But once the board had been ripped down, the reptile is easily spotted.

"After a bit of time and effort I got him out from under the kitchen bench," Mr McKenzie wrote online.

"Its amazing the places snakes can get into."

The snake catcher is urging people who may have any unwelcome visitors to call in a professional.
