Gold Coast boy finds brown tree snake in toilet bowl

A Gold Coast child has taken a trip to the bathroom he won't be forgetting any time soon, after discovering a brown tree snake in the toilet bowl.

The reptile had retreated to the bathroom in Guanaba, a semi-rural suburb, and when snake catcher Tony Harrison arrived it was found lurking under the rim of the toilet.

A live video of the recovery effort was uploaded on the Gold Coast and Brisbane Snake Catcher Facebook page on Sunday.

Mr Harrison can be heard in the feed saying, "Can you imagine waking up early in the morning, sitting on the toilet and then this popping up between your legs?"

In the footage, Mr Harrison tries to force the snake out by flushing the toilet a couple of times, but it doesn't budge.

He then has to reach under the lip of the bowl and attempt to pull the sneaky snake out, while hoping it doesn't bite him.

It is believed the snake came into the home and crawled into the toilet to hide.

The slippery intruder was seemingly very content where it was and it took some persistence to pull the reptile free.

In the footage, Mr Harrison describes brown tree snakes as a "little bit fiery" but explained they are venomous but not deadly.

Mr Harrison told News Corp this is not the first time he has had to reach into a toilet to retrieve a slippery snake, claiming red belly black snakes and carpet pythons go into toilets searching for green tree frogs.

“I have caught one that took half a day and we had to smash up the bowl and everything because someone had tried to flushed it down toilet,” he said.
