Boy seriously injured after being struck by a truck at Caloundra West

An eight-year-old boy has received serious head injuries after being hit by a truck at Caloundra West, on the Sunshine Coast.

Initial investigations by police suggest the boy was riding his scooter on a footpath before he travelled into the path of a truck on Indigo Road.

The accident happened at about 9.30am near the corner of Indigo Road and Amber Drive.

The child was taken to Caloundra Hospital in a serious condition before being airlifted to the Lady Cilento Children's Hospital in Brisbane.

The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating and remains on scene.
