"My dad is having a seizure and we have no Mum. Dad, stay with us!”

Those were the desperate words of an eight-year-old boy, who called Triple-0 after his father started having a seizure.

Jonathon Porter and his sister little Cheyenne were with their dad when he collapsed at their Brisbane home last year.

In an extraordinary display of bravery, the siblings were able to stay calm and help their father until paramedics arrived.

"Just try and get him on his side," the operator said.

The young siblings had only recently lost their mother to cancer.

Six-year-old Cheyene said she taught them what to do in an emergency.

"I'm extremely proud of us because for calling Triple-0 and we know what to do now because our mother taught us,” Cheyene said.

Their father Glenn Porter said he was extremely proud of his children.

"They're my world now. If it wasn't for what they did, I may not be here," he said.

"Their mother would be very, very proud of them."

On Thursday, Jonathon and Cheyene were given surprise bravery awards for saving their dad’s life.

Queensland Health Minister Lawrence Springborg presented them with their accolades.

He said a campaign to educate children on what to do in emergency situations is working.

"The message is getting through, and that's great, and that means we get better outcomes for people's loved ones," Springborg said.
